Its been said that “the early bird catches the worm” – well this “worm” turned out to be a winner for me and netted the Getaway Magazine “Pic of the Month” in June 2013. 8 images, all shot using Canon 550D & Canon 18-55mm lens on a rotating head tripod in portrait format, then comped together resulted in the final masterpiece!
Old and beautiful hands, waiting to be photographed and kept forever.
I had initially planned on photographing her hands whilst she was busy knitting, but for this lovely old lady being a “photographic model” for the first time, nerves played their
part and she froze up. I tried a few shots, and eventually said “relax, I’ll try a different approach”. Relax she did, and as she put her knitting down and started fiddling with her ring, I knew I had a winner!
The final image is the result of 3 images, shot on a Canon 600D with 18-55mm lens, using AEB, merged to HDR, converted to B&W, and final tonal adjustments were done.
The image was recognised by Outdoor Photo as their “Weekly Choice – People / natural light”, with the following comments being posted
